Thanks to everyone who attended Haunted Happening last Friday.
We had a great turn out, the bands were awesome, handed out some awesome prizes and all around had a great time.
Props to the security camera costume that won first prize, I thought that was really clever.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed yourself as much as I did

You can vote for your class representative now! So go! (Voting will be up until Monday 10/15/07 at 10:00am)
You may vote by logging into NYU Home and selecting the “NYU Life” tab. From there you scroll down until you see the “Voting Channel for School Elections” section.
Here you will see two links, one for your class rep and for the transfer rep. Unfortunately there was no way to keep the transfer rep voting to only show up for those who have transferred so we will verify the votes after the elections have been held.
If you’re interested in joining the gallatin student council or participating in some fashion but weren’t able to join the races for class rep - please let us know! Email us with any questions at gsc (at) gallatinstudent.com
Interested in who’s trying to be a class rep? Click here for a list of candidates and their bios!
Good luck to everyone who’s running!

I had heard issues about not being able to swipe a friend in at dining halls and noticed the facebook group that had been created as well. I emailed Dining Services and CC’d Owen Moore (per the facebook groups recommendation) and Owen got back to me 2 minutes later. The official response that Owen sent to me is the following :
There are several items involved so I will break it down per item.
The meal plan policy is only for the use of the member (owner/student). This
policy has been in effect since I arrived in 2000 and is stated in the
Campus Services Dining brochure on pages 12 and 15 and also on the dining
web page at www.nyudining.com in two areas.
Conditions and terms item #6
6. ” Meal plan coverage: You are entitled to eat the number of
meals per week, beginning at breakfast each Monday, and to use the amount of
Dining Dollars per semester provided by your meal plan. Meal plans are not
transferable, and you may not allow anyone else to use or eat with your NYU
Card. Unused Dining Dollars transfer over from fall to spring semester only
for active meal plan members.”
And also the FAQ section:
“Q-Can I treat a friend by using two “meals” in a meal period?
A- You are the only person allowed to use your “meals.” If you would
like to treat a friend, you may pay for his/her meal using your Dining
Dollars.”
In the last three years Dining Services has made significant changes
in the flexibility of the meal plan program to allow its member maximum use
of their plan. These changes include “meal exchanges” at most of our retail
locations, creation of flex plans that allow members to manage their meals
over an entire semester rather then week to week. We also introduced the
“meals to go” program at our residential locations, and the elimination of
meal plan periods. The changes in the flex plan and elimination of the meal
periods were specific to the concerns of students whose classes or
residences were either uptown or downtown and needed to swipe a meal twice
within a meal period. One example is a member eats one meal and takes
another back to their room to eat it later. Another example is a member who
eats a late breakfast at 11:00 a.m. then attends classes, returns within the
same meal period to eat a late lunch at 3:45, then attends another class or
job.
Recently, we noticed a dramatic increase where members purchased
meals for non-members or gave their NYU ID’s to friends to purchase meals.
The dining managers and cashiers were instructed to remind the members of
the polices mentioned above. In our mission to provide good hospitality and
not turn away members or deny students meals in the beginning of the
academic year while they adjusted to their new surroundings, we try to be
flexible with our policy enforcement. Based on the feedback and comments I
received, we will certainly look at ways to incorporate a method where
members can use their meal plans and entertain a friend or guest.
Now I don’t know if I particularly agree with the policy that only you are allowed to use your meal plan, but at least we know why this occurred.
If you disagree with this policy or (any other policies for that matter), please come and let us know at a Gallatin Student Council meeting or use the Speak Up form.

gPost is a new listserv from gPAC (Gallatin Peer Advising Center) where anyone can join and post up events that they are attending (they do have to get the okay to be posted) but it’s mainly for events that NYU isn’t hosting. You could post up any event that you were attending or thought would be cool. Or simply join to see what other people are going to!
To join visit gPAC’s website at http://www.nyu.edu/gallatin/gpac/

Okay so on Monday we had the priviledge of meeting the new dean and it went very well, I’m excited to say. It seems like she will really be able to propel Gallatin forward and help us to grow in many directions. She was extremely friendly and overall a great guest, she’s genuinely interested in what we do as a gallatin community and in getting to know us better.
And beyond meeting the dean on Monday we’ll be providing a Monthly wrap-up meeting this Friday (for details check out the calendar on the left).
That about wraps things up here,
-Matt
